At Woodward Creek Farm we like to keep the big picture in mind and approach our farm as a self-sustaining ecosystem. The health and well-being of the farm animals, the farm, the earth, and our family are all viewed as integral parts that make up the whole. In biodynamic farming you must see the farm as a whole and have balance.
Farming in any way is a way of life. There's organic farming which is copying nature. Then there's Biodynamics where we are looking behind what nature is actually doing and seeing the laws of life in a much clearer way. We are working in the same direction as nature but we are taking it further. It's a deeper understanding of the laws of life and much more powerful than organics as you must come up with a very broad system.
Not only do we avoid synthetic chemical pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and GMOs like some organic farmers, but we also focus on specific, farm-made solutions to pest control, soil health and fertility. We minimize the volume of imported materials and try to nurture the potential of the farm’s own resources, which include water from our natural springs and provide biodiversity in an undisturbed portion of our land in its natural being.
One of the simplest ways to understand the advantages of Biodynamic agriculture is to think specifically about the connection between all parts of the farm.
